Where every class is a moving experience
ReFlex - Dance School

"Three qualities are required if one is to become and artist, One must have aptitude, or the ability to acquire mastery of the art; one must have tremendous love for one’s art in order to work on it with determination, effort and concentration, and one must have imagination and creativity to develop the art along new and unknown paths."

Class Description

BALLET

Ballet is the basic foundation of all dance forms. It teaches proper placement, carriage, grace and poise. Barre exercises develop strength and flexibility, while center work allows the student to practice classic dance principles. Ballet is highly recommended as a compliment to other dance classes because the terminology and placement learned in Ballet quickens advancement in other classes.

JAZZ/ HIP HOP

Jazz is an American dance form which evolves and changes with the latest popular styles. This means a jazz class can consist of vintage movement and Broadway styles, as well as Hip Hop and the latest popular street moves. At REFLEX we try to incorporate a little of everything in our jazz classes so students get a broad introduction to jazz as an art form. Students work on placement and technique while learning contemporary movement. The class consists of a warm‐up, floor progressions and combinations.

TAP

Tap class combines dance with rhythmic foot patterns. Students learn coordination of feet and musical rhythms in a way that is both challenging and fun.

ACROBATICS

Acrobatics is the floor tumbling section of gymnastics. Mats are used to teach students safe techniques for rolls, handstands, walkovers, handsprings and other tricks. Studying acrobatics in a dance environment assures students have equal ability on both sides and the focus is on beautiful technique. A great compliment to any dance form.

MODERN

Modern is a contemporary dance form based on movement that is parallel and grounded. A classical dance form often taught in college dance programs, Modern dance should not be confused with contemporary (jazz) dance. Modern combines varied elements, ranging from very natural to very unusual to create a unique, expressive dance experience.

LYRICAL

A blend of jazz, ballet and modern, this classes uses movement to interpret the lyrics of popular songs. Dramatic content and beautiful line makes this a popular class. Liturgical dance often falls under this category as well.

YOUTH AND TEEN YOGA

Yoga is a fun way for young people to develop fitness and important life skills in a fun, non‐competitive environment. Children today often feel pressured at school academically and socially, not to mention the added pressure of competitive organized sports and other youth activities. It is easy for girls and boys to become overly self‐critical, and lose confidence in themselves as they grow and change. But Yoga is a great remedy; there is no judgment in a yoga class about how a person does a pose or plays a game. Doing a pose "perfectly" is not the aim of yoga, which nurtures a student’s inner strength and self‐acceptance. Youth Youth yoga classes develop flexibility, coordination and fitness while teaching children to respect and honor not only themselves, but each other and the environment. Our classes for ages 8‐12 feature games and exercises for self‐discovery, while developing fitness, flexibility and balance.

TEEN

The increased concentration of teens allows for a more traditional yoga
practice for our teen levels, however we incorporate popular music and vigorous poses into the class to challenge young adults and make them feel more connected as they explore alignment, develop self‐awareness, and nurture their inner joy.
